Gas Crisis Threat in Germany: Storage Levels Drop to 50%

15:14 - 21.08.2026

August 21, Fineko/abc.az. Natural gas storage levels in Germany currently stand at 50%. Although the law mandates reaching 80% capacity by November 1, industry associations consider even the adjusted target nearly impossible to achieve.

The blockade of the Strait of Ormuz due to Middle East tensions has disrupted global energy supplies, while high prices discourage companies from purchasing gas for storage. Echoing the 2022 energy crisis following the Russia-Ukraine conflict, critics and opposition figures are demanding government intervention. Amid mounting pressure, the Ministry of Economy stated it stands ready to deploy swift measures if the situation deteriorates further.
