July 3, Fineko/abc.az. The Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has maintained its forecast for global grain production in 2026 at the level of 2.98 billion tons that is 1.9% lower than last year's record but the second-highest in history. The decrease in the forecast for wheat (to 806.5 million tonnes) has been offset by improved expectations for corn, while rice production has remained relatively unchanged.
Grain consumption in the 2026-2027 season is expected to reach 2.96 billion tons (+0.3% yoy), with increased demand for feed crops and record rice consumption. Stocks will increase by about 1%, keeping the stock-to-consumption ratio at about 32%.
Global grain trade will remain generally stable (nearly 507 million tons): a rie in corn supplies will partially offset a decrease in wheat and barley trade, while rice trade will decrease slightly.
