Moscow Court Fines Telegram, Google, and Microsoft

August 18, Fineko/abc.az. The Tagansky District Court of Moscow has ruled on lawsuits filed against tech giants for failing to remove restricted content.

The court ordered Telegram to pay a fine of 3.8 million rubles, Google 3.8 million rubles, and Microsoft 3.5 million rubles.

In Russia, foreign internet platforms such as Apple, TikTok, Google, Telegram, and Microsoft have previously faced administrative fines for non-compliance with local regulations and failure to delete prohibited material.

Scale of financial penalties:

  • Google: Since the end of 2021, total turnover-based fines imposed on Google have exceeded 29 billion rubles, with its enforcement debt in the country standing at over 20 billion rubles.

  • Telegram: Alongside operational restrictions, Moscow courts have fined Telegram over 100 million rubles in the first six months of this year alone.
