August 17, Fineko/abc.az. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas evaluated the Russia-Ukraine war and EU sanctions policy in an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt.

Pointing out that EU sanctions have cost Russia over €1 trillion so far, Kallas stated: "In the autumn, I will present the most comprehensive sanctions list against Russia since the start of the war."

Noting that if the new restrictive measures are approved, the number of sanctioned Russian individuals, companies, and entities will increase by one-third, Kallas stressed that pressure on Russia must be intensified until the conflict ends. She did not disclose specific details regarding the targets of the new package.

To date, the EU has implemented 21 sanctions packages against Russia, covering trade, finance, energy, industry, technology, transport, dual-use goods, luxury items, gold, and diamonds. Measures also include a ban on seaborne crude oil and petroleum products, financial restrictions on banks, and suspensions of several Russian media outlets.

Nearly 3,000 individuals and entities are currently sanctioned for actions undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Unanimous approval from all EU member states is required to adopt new sanctions.
