July 14, Fineko/abc.az. The grain harvest of 286.6 million tons of grain will be received by farmers in the EU and Britain in 2026 (23.4 million tons less than a year earlier), according to COCERAL forecast.
Soft wheat will be produced in 140.8 million tons, against 149.8 million tons in 2025. The heat has affected the ripening of wheat in France, southern Germany, Austria, Poland, and Hungary. The forecast has also been lowered in Spain, where the May heat has caused more damage than expected.
The EU's corn harvest forecast has been reduced to 52.7 million tons, compared to 57.4 million tons last year. The heat has particularly affected crops in France and Hungary. In France, the harvest is expected to be only 9.4 million tons, the lowest in 20 years (compared to 13.8 million tons in 2025). The production has also been affected by the reduction in cultivated areas.
The rapeseed harvest is projected to be 21.2 million tons, compared to 21.4 million tons in 2025, while the barley harvest in the EU and the UK is expected to be 57.6 million tons, compared to 63.8 million tons in 2025. Winter barley has been less affected, as it has had time to mature before the onset of heat.
