June 22, Fineko/abc.az. Systematic measures aimed at reconstructing the irrigation infrastructure and minimizing water losses will be taken to ensure stable water supply in the agricultural sector of Azerbaijan.
ABC.AZ reports that State Agency for Water Resources’ (ADSEA) deputy chairman Khayyam Mammadov said this at a regional meeting on the Shirvan-Salyan economic region as part of the State Program on production & processing of agricultural, fish and aquaculture products for 2026-2030.
According to Mammadov, the program is focused on the transition from extensive methods in favor of intensive agriculture with high added value.
He underlined that the Shirvan-Salyan economic region remains one of the key agricultural centers of the country, but is facing the consequences of climate change - rising temperatures, increased droughts, uneven precipitation and increased stress on water resources.
"Effective water resources management is not only an environmental issue, but also a strategic priority that ensures country's food independence," Mammadov said.
