June 11, Fineko/abc.az. Currently, development of the draft state program for the development of the mining industry and metallurgy is at the final stage.

ABC.AZ reports that Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov stated this in an interview with AZERTAC and ITV, referring to the issue of priority areas of the non-oil/gas sector.

According to the minister, there is great potential in development of the mining sector.

"There are both natural and historical reasons for this. The natural reason is that our country is rich in geological resources that are important for the mining industry. By historical reason, I mean that before our great Victory, we had access to only a small part of the geological resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Because most of our geological resources necessary for development of the mining industry, including gold, copper, silver, and possibly critically important minerals, are located in territories liberated from occupation. Today, despite the fact that a short period has passed, we see the results of development of this industry," Jabbarov said.
