Alba buys the largest aluminum plant in EU for $2.2 bn

June 3, Fineko/abc.az. Bahraini company Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) has agreed to acquire a 100% stake in the EU's largest aluminum plant, Aluminum Dunkerque, from American Industrial Partners for approx. $2.2 bn.

ABC.AZ reports that the deal is aimed at strengthening Alba's position in the global market and forming a more diversified industrial platform. The financing will be provided by partner banks, while French state-owned bank Bpifrance will invest 100 million euros in exchange for a 6% stake and a seat on the Board of Directors.

The plant in France produces roughly 300,000 tons of aluminum a year.
