June 16, Fineko/abc.az. China is strengthening its policy toward food self-sufficiency, a strategic pivot that could substantially reduce its reliance on soybean imports in the coming years.
According to ABC.AZ, quoting reports from The Rio Times, recent delays and the return of several shipments of Brazilian soybeans serve as an immediate signal of tightening customs controls and a potential slowdown in procurement. Under its latest five-year plan, Beijing intends to scale up domestic production and diversify alternative protein sources.
Market analysts project a gradual contraction in China's soybean imports by approximately one-quarter leading up to 2030. This shift poses a significant structural risk for Brazil, which heavily depends on the Chinese market as its primary agricultural buyer.
