August 22, Fineko/abc.az. The US government has officially enacted 50% tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian imports, impacting roughly 5% of Canada's annual exports to the United States.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that the measure was implemented after Canada refused to finalize a trade deal under previously agreed-upon conditions.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the suspension of trade negotiations with Washington. Describing the last-minute US terms as unfair and economically detrimental, Carney confirmed that Canada will implement dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs to protect domestic businesses and workers.
