June 11, Fineko/abc.az. In 2025, the non-oil sector made up 71.5%. This means that the share of the oil & gas sector is less than 30%. If we turn to the period 20 years ago, we’ll see that this indicator did not reach 45%, being approximately at the level of 43.5 - 43.6%. This demonstrates the path we have traveled. This shows that the policy is successful.
ABC.AZ informs, quoting Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov that over the past 6 years, the country has managed to almost double non-oil exports: "This growth trend continues this year. In the first 4 months of this year, non-oil exports grew more than by 17%. This is a fairly high growth rate. At the same time, we always focus on the quality of non-oil exports, that is, on what goods they consist of.
The economic sustainability of the country, which is our main goal, largely depends on expanding the range of these products. Along with this, expansion of export geography is of particular importance. It is no secret that in world trade, especially related to non-oil products, all countries apply certain tariff barriers. Therefore, most of our supplies are carried out to countries with which we have concluded free trade agreements or preferential trade agreements. This is due to the fact that mutual import duties are not applied in trade with these partners.
If you look at the situation today, you can see that we have free trade agreements only with the countries of the former Soviet Union. If, on the one hand, this determines the geographical opportunities for our non–oil exports, on the other hand, it is a limiting factor. Accordingly, we prefer to expand this geography through the conclusion of preferential trade agreements."
