According to the Financial Times, this increase has pushed average diesel costs past the levels recorded during Joe Biden's presidency.

Despite the recent retreat in crude oil prices, diesel costs continue to climb due to depleted inventories, shrinking refining capacity, and Russia's export ban on fuels. Given diesel's central role in agriculture, freight, and supply chains, the price hike is fueling voter dissatisfaction ahead of the upcoming November midterm elections. U.S. households have spent an additional $600 on fuel since the Iran war began, sharpening concerns over persistent inflation.
