US Strategic Petroleum Reserve Capacity Drops to 42.7%

12:00 - 8.08.2026

August 8, Fineko/abc.az. The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), stored in underground salt caverns along the Gulf Coast, remains the world's largest emergency crude oil stockpile designed to mitigate supply disruptions.

As of July 31, 2026, the strategic inventory stood at 304.8 million barrels. With a maximum authorized storage capacity of 714 million barrels, the current fill level is at 42.7%.

Although this reading is nearly half its historical peak, the underground infrastructure and connected pipelines remain fully operational to supply crude to the market during emergency events.
