China Producer Price Inflation Slows for First Time Since Iran War Began

August 10, Fineko/abc.az. Factory-gate inflation in China slowed in July for the first time since the war in Iran began in late February, alongside a cooling in consumer price growth, signaling a reduction in cost pressures driven by earlier oil price shocks.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China's Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 3.5% year-on-year in July, down from 4.1% in June and missing market expectations. This marks the first deceleration since March, when PPI turned positive following more than three years of decline.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed 0.5% year-on-year in July, down from 1.0% in June, while core CPI dropped from 1.0% to 0.9%. Citigroup economists highlighted that the slowdown points to both energy price adjustments and weak domestic demand, raising lingering concerns over potential deflationary risks.
