China Constructs Over 400-Kilometer 'Great Solar Wall'

June 19, Fineko/abc.az. China is developing a massive renewable energy project along the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia, a mega-structure already being hailed as the "Great Solar Wall."

According to ABC.AZ, this extensive corridor of solar panels is engineered to stretch over 402 kilometers (250 miles) in length and up to 5 kilometers in width, making it visible from orbit.

Satellite data released by NASA confirms that vast arrays of photovoltaic panels have systematically replaced the shifting desert dunes over recent years. The project is on track for full completion by 2030, with a targeted maximum generation capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW)—a threshold capable of fully powering the capital city of Beijing. As of the end of 2024, approximately 5.4 GW of operational capacity had already been grid-connected.
