August 26, Fineko/abc.az. Japanese conglomerate SoftBank is reportedly in discussions with investment banks regarding a potential bond issuance of $10 billion to $20 billion to refinance loan bridge facilities for its investment in US tech giant OpenAI. Sources indicate the issuance could be denominated in USD and EUR, with the earliest placement expected in September.
A portion of the proceeds will be used to pay down part of a $40 billion bridge loan secured earlier this year for the OpenAI deal. SoftBank, founded and led by billionaire Masayoshi Son, is scheduled to invest nearly $65 billion in OpenAI by October. The company is considering the 144A format for the first time in over a decade, allowing sales to US institutional investors to access a broader capital pool.
