June 11, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan and Iran have approved water allocation regimes for the Araz River between the two countries and discussed further cooperation in water quality monitoring and the operation of water management infrastructure.
ABC.AZ informs that according to the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), the agreement was reached at the 55th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran Permanent Joint Commission on the Use of Water and Energy Resources of the Araz River, which was held in Iran from June 8 to 11.
The commission was chaired on the Azerbaijani side by Zakir Guliyev, chairman of the Board of the Regional Water Reclamation Service, and on the Iranian side by Fariba Avarideh, head of the General Directorate for Border Rivers of the Iranian Ministry of Energy.
Representatives of the Regional Water Reclamation Service, the State Service for Supervision of Use and Protection of Water Resources under ADSEA, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, and Azerenergy also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the working regimes for the allocation of water resources for the Araz River were agreed upon and approved. Water sampling monitoring, quality control, installation of modern water measurement devices, and other cooperation issues were also discussed.
Following the negotiations, a final protocol was signed, outlining the joint work to be carried out by the parties.
