July 15, Fineko/abc.az. Work is underway on introduction of visa-free regime between Azerbaijan and Malaysia, and progress is expected in the coming months.

MP Vugar Bayramov, the head of the Azerbaijani-Malaysian Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Milli Majlis, said this at a meeting of the leaders of the Azerbaijani tourism industry.

According to the MP, during the meetings in Malaysia, the issues of expanding tourism ties between the two countries and simplifying the visa regime were discussed: "Malaysia has great tourism potential. Currently, Malaysian citizens need a visa to visit Azerbaijan. Discussions have been held on this matter, and I believe that a visa-free regime will be possible in the near future. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already submitted a corresponding memorandum."

The MP emphasized that in order to increase the tourist flow from Asian countries, it is important to increase the number of direct flights, along with simplifying visas: "Typically, tourists from Asian countries choose destinations that offer direct flights. Therefore, the introduction of direct flights can significantly contribute to enhancing Azerbaijan's tourism potential."
