Russia has invested $11 bn in Azerbaijan

July 17, Fineko/abc.az. Intergovernmental cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is developing primarily within the Intergovernmental Commission, headed by two countries’ PMs.

Interparliamentary dialogue has also been activated.

Russian FM Sergey Lavrov made this statement at a joint press conference following his talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov.

The Russian FM noted that intensive foreign policy dialogue at all levels continues between the two countries.

Lavrov said that one of the main topics discussed at the bilateral meeting was trade and economic cooperation, and he highlighted growth dynamics in this area.

“The parties confirmed their mutual interest in further increasing trade turnover. Last year, bilateral trade reached almost $5 billion. Russia remains one of Azerbaijan’s main economic partners, and there is significant potential for increasing trade turnover and direct investments,” he said.

According to the minister, Russian investments in Azerbaijan totaled approx. $11 billion.

Lavrov emphasized that the meeting focused on restoring full-scale cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, and educational spheres.

"We discussed in detail the current issues on the regional and international agenda. We emphasized the importance of our cooperation in ensuring stability in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region," the Russian FM added.
