April 3, Fineko/abc.az. Emirates Global Aluminum, the largest aluminum producer in the Middle East, has suspended operations at its Al-Tawel smelter after rocket and drone fire from Iran.
ABC.AZ informs that the plant was left without electricity, which led to damage to the electrolysis lines and freezing of metal inside the installations. Similar attacks have also affected Aluminum Bahrain.
The incidents caused an increase in aluminum prices at the London Stock Exchange.
The Middle East produces nearly 9% of the world's aluminum, and shutting down major plants could lead to cascading production cuts and metal shortages in Europe, Asia, and the U.S.
