August 20, Fineko/abc.az. Tech giant Nvidia plans to begin small-volume shipments of a new AI chip designed specifically for Chinese customers by the end of the year. Several Chinese firms have already placed orders for the new processor.
The chip incorporates language processing unit (LPU) technology licensed from Groq, working alongside Nvidia's GPUs to accelerate AI chatbot inference speeds. While the chip complies with US export controls, it remains uncertain whether Beijing will approve its sale domestically. Although Nvidia dominates the AI training market, it faces stiff competition in the inference sector from domestic Chinese heavyweights like Baidu, which produce their own in-house chips.
