Decline of 6.5% observed on global steel production in January 2026

February 27, Fineko/abc.az. Global steel production in 69 countries, which includes the World Steel Association (worldsteel) in its report, amounted to 147.3 million tons in January 2026 (6.5% less than in January 2025), ABC.AZ informs, referring to Association's statement.

These 69 countries accounted for approximately 98% of the total global production of unrefined steel in 2024.

Among the Top 10 countries, China produced 75.3 million tons of steel in January 2026, down 13.9% from a year earlier. India produced 15.1 million tons (+10.5%), the USA – 7.1 million tons (+3.3%), Japan – 6.8 million (-0.5%), South Korea – 5.6 million (+5.0%), Russia – 5.5 million (-7.4%), Turkey – 3.4 million (+5.8%), Germany – 3.1 million (+15.0%), Brazil – 2.7 million (-1.4%), Iran – 2.6 million tons (+15.1%).
