October 29, Fineko/abc.az. The "carbon tax" will affect 0.4% of the products that Azerbaijan will export to the European Union.
ABC.AZ reports that Samira Musayeva, deputy head of the State Tax Service (under the Ministry of Economy), made this statement at the XIII International Caspian Energy Forum 2025.
She recalled that on January 1, 2025, EU's announced carbon trade regulation at the border, namely CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), comes into force: "This means that carbon charges will be applied at the border for a number of goods to be exported to the EU - six product groups, depending on it depends on whether the carbon price is set in the country of their production at the time of manufacture. Naturally, we’ve also set up a working group at the Ministry of Economy to protect local businesses from such impacts. Relevant work is underway to measure the impact of the pricing policy applied when exporting these products to the EU on the competitiveness of domestic businesses.
"Musayeva noted that, according to preliminary estimates, the share of products subject to the "carbon tax" in all Azerbaijani exports to the EU is 0.4%: "Considering the recently-adopted simplification mechanisms in the EU, in general, these impacts will be quite minor."
