Five EU Countries Propose Special Tax on Oil Companies

August 24, Fineko/abc.az. Austria, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Portugal have proposed introducing a special tax on oil companies amid sharply rising oil prices driven by US and Israeli military operations against Iran.

Finance ministers of the five countries called for the issue to be discussed at the EU Council of Finance Ministers meeting in Dublin this September.

The appeal emphasizes that while consumers worldwide face a rising cost of living, oil giants are deriving windfall profits by taking advantage of prevailing market conditions.
