Azerbaijan lowers iodine sales abroad by 14.7%

February 24, Fineko/abc.az. In 2024, iodine exports from Azerbaijan decreased by 14.7% compared with 2023, from 231.15 tons to 197.04 tons.

Export revenue dropped by 28.2%, from $15.5 million in 2023 to $11.1 million.

ABC.AZ reports, citing data from the State Statistics Committee, that while in 2023 a ton of iodine sold abroad by the country cost $67,062, in 2024 this figure fell by 16% to $56,469.

China reduced iodine imports from Azerbaijan by 17.8%, from 90 to 74 tons. And revenues from exports to this country fell by 27.9%, from $5.65 million to $4.07 million.

Russia imported 9.6% more iodine from Azerbaijan, from 44.75 tons to 49.04 tons. Revenue from iodine exports to Russia decreased by 26.1%, from $4.04 million to $2.99 million.

Exports to India fell by 43.7%, from 96 to 54 tons. Revenue from iodine exports decreased by 48.6%, from $57.78 million to $29.7 million.

Last year, Azerbaijan produced 208 tons of iodine, which is almost the same as in 2023.
