Russia bans import of over 50 tons of tomatoes from Azerbaijan

February 18, Fineko/abc.az. In the period from 1 to 18 February inspectors of the Department on the Republic of Dagestan of the Federal Service for Veterinary & Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) detained three batches of fresh tomatoes with total weight of 50.4 tons from Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports that import of vegetables in the Russian Federation was banned because of the discovery of the South American tomato moth (Tuta absoluta Povolny) in them.

The reason for the detention of the batches was the laboratory conclusion. The cargo was returned back to Azerbaijan.
