Azerbaijan Spent $14.4 Million on Corn Imports

August 26, Fineko/abc.az. In January–July of this year, Azerbaijan imported 30.6 thousand tons of corn valued at $14.4 million. According to the State Customs Committee, this represents a decrease of 6.3 thousand tons (17.1%) in volume, but an increase of $335 thousand (2.3%) in value compared to the same period last year. Corn import expenditures accounted for 0.1% of the country's total import costs during the reporting period.

Concurrently, Azerbaijan's total foreign trade turnover reached $29.216 billion in the first 7 months, marking a 1.3% increase year-on-year. Exports accounted for $19.336 billion, while imports stood at $9.881 billion. Driven by a 27% surge in exports and a 27.4% contraction in imports over the past year, the foreign trade balance recorded a positive surplus of $9.455 billion—a 5.9-fold increase compared to the previous year.
