August 28, Fineko/abc.az. The foreign ministers of Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain have called on the European Union (EU) Commission to evaluate new options for utilizing frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.

In a joint letter sent to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the Foreign Minister of Ireland (holding the EU Presidency), Helen McEntee, it was highlighted that Ukraine requires further financial assistance in both the short and long term. The letter emphasized that using Russian assets could alleviate the burden on European taxpayers.

The letter requested the EU Commission’s technical experts to analyze new mechanisms for using the frozen assets. It was noted that the informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers scheduled for September 1–2 in Ireland presents an appropriate opportunity to revisit this topic.
