Copper Prices Continue to Rise Amid Tight Short-Term Supply

August 26, Fineko/abc.az. Copper prices continued their upward trajectory on Wednesday, supported by tight short-term supply dynamics.

On the London Metal Exchange (LME), copper edged up 0.5% to $14,415.50 per metric ton following Tuesday's record close.

Copper prices have surged roughly 16% since the beginning of the year. Heavy shipments to the US have drained inventories in other regions, while mine production struggles to keep pace with rising demand, intensifying market supply concerns.

Market tightness peaked last week as the spread between spot copper and three-month futures contracts widened beyond $500 per ton. Although the premium later narrowed, it stood at approximately $156 by Tuesday's close—substantially above normal market levels.

While copper nears its intraday record high of $14,527.50 reached in January, other base metals remained largely unchanged.
