August 19, Fineko/abc.az. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the suspension of all commercial activities, trade, and financial transactions with Iran until further notice.
According to the UAE's official news agency WAM, citing Afra Al Hameli, Director of Strategic Communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all trade and financial operations with Iran have been halted. Detailed information regarding the scope and implementation of the decision has not yet been disclosed.
The announcement came shortly after the UAE Ministry of Defense reported that two ballistic missiles launched from Iran targeting maritime navigation fell into the sea.
Context and Regional Tensions Tensions in the Middle East escalated following joint US-Israeli strikes against Iran. In response, Tehran carried out attacks against regional nations hosting US assets, including the UAE.
In mid-June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan aimed at ending the war and reaching a permanent peace deal. However, talks subsequently broke down due to ongoing disputes over the memorandum's terms and maritime navigation through the critical Strait of Hormuz.
