August 18, Fineko/abc.az. Rising natural gas and fuel prices pushed Canada's annual inflation rate to 3%, according to Statistics Canada. Gasoline prices jumped 26% year-over-year in July, up from a 21% increase in June.

Excluding gasoline, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.2% for the third consecutive month, with monthly inflation ticking up by 0,5%. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had expected headline inflation to reach 2.9%.

The Bank of Canada's preferred core inflation measures averaged 1.95% annually, up slightly from 1.90% in the previous month. The central bank has held its benchmark policy rate at 2.25% for six consecutive meetings, but officials remain watchful of whether higher energy costs could broaden overall price pressures.
