July 8, Fineko/abc.az. NATO is preparing to expand its pipeline network of petroleum products, connecting the countries of Eastern Europe and the Baltics, as well as strengthening the infrastructure in Turkey.

The decision is to be announced at the summit on July 8.

The project, worth approx. $30 billion, involves not only expansion, but also modernization of the system, built back during the Cold War. The greatest interest in the connection is shown by Poland, Romania and the Baltic countries.

The network is used for both military and civilian infrastructure, but its wear and tear and recent incidents highlight the need for upgrades.
