June 8, Fineko/abc.az. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a possible increase in interest rates by the Federal Reserve System (FRS) against the background of strong employment data would be a wrong decision.
ABC.AZ informs, citing NBC, that Trump stressed that the regulator should not rush to tighten policy before the first meeting of the Fed, chaired by new chairman Kevin Warsh. According to the president, rates should not be raised, but lowered in order to stimulate the success of the American economy.
The May report of the U.S. Department of Labor shows an increase in the number of jobs by 172,000 with stable unemployment of 4.3%, which increased investors' expectations for an increase in rates by the end of the year. Trump noted that the country has a high level of public debt and ambitious plans to finance the military sector, so an increase in borrowing costs is now impractical.
