April 6, Fineko/abc.az. The war that began with the attack of the U.S. and Israel on Iran, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian war that has been going on for more than four years, has led to an increase in fertilizer prices in Azerbaijan.
ABC.AZ informs that in particular, the war in Iran and the problem of the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz make it difficult to import and export products to various countries, which leads to higher prices. Fertilizers imported in Azerbaijan from abroad are among the more expensive products.
According to the Customs Committee, 51,000 tons of fertilizers for $35 million were imported in Azerbaijan from abroad in 2025. Fertilizers are mainly imported in Azerbaijan from Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Iran, Spain, Italy, Uzbekistan, the U.S. and other countries.
In 2025, Azerbaijan exported 543,000 tons of fertilizers for $171 million. Fertilizers from Azerbaijan are mainly exported to Ukraine, Canada, India, Argentina, Georgia, Israel, Turkey, Uruguay, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. Farid Mejidov, a representative of Agricola, said that both the war in the Middle East and the Russian-Ukrainian war had led to an increase in prices for imported fertilizers: "Over the past month, there has been an increase in fertilizer prices, including due to the war in the Middle East. Fertilizers from Finland and Norway are imported in our country through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, the goods are delayed on the way and cannot be delivered."
