German inflation exceeds market expectations in January 2026

January 30, Fineko/abc.az. At the beginning of 2026, inflation in Germany accelerated more than expected.

ABC.AZ reports that in January, consumer prices rose by 2.1% year-on-year against 1.8% a month earlier, exceeding market expectations of 2%. On a monthly basis, inflation was 0.1%.

The harmonized consumer price index also grew up to 2.1% year-on-year, in line with analysts' forecasts. The data intensified discussions about the future monetary policy of the ECB, as Germany remains a key factor in inflationary dynamics in the eurozone.
