May 5, Fineko/abc.az. U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he does not intend to be re-elected to the highest state post for the third time, ABC.AZ reports quoting Trump as stating this in an interview with NBC News.
“I’ll be an eight-year president; I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,” Trump said.
He added that his supporters regularly urge him to run for a third term in the future, but he has no intention of doing so.
“There are many people selling the Trump 2028-branded red hats,” Trump said. “But this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican to carry it forward,” the American leader emphasized.
According to the 22nd Amendment to the American Constitution, adopted in 1951, the same person can be elected head of state no more than twice. The next U.S. presidential election will be held in 2028. At the same time, Trump previously admitted the possibility of being nominated for a third term, and information appeared in the media that the owner of the White House instructed the U.S. Department of Justice to study the legality of his potential participation in the presidential elections in 2028.
