March 4, Fineko/abc.az. The forecast of sugar shortage for the 2024-2025 season in the world has increased to 4.88 million tons from November's 2.51 million tons, according to the International Sugar Organization (ISO).

ABC.AZ reports that in the 2023-2024 season, global sugar production turned out to exceed consumption by 1.31 million tons. Sugar production in the current season will reach 175.5 million tons (3% more than a year earlier).

The Czarnikow Sugar Exchange in London predicts record sugar production in Brazil of 43.6 million tons for the 2025-2026 season. Experts explained the increase in the forecast by the fact that sugar production in the South American country has become more profitable than the production of ethanol from sugar cane.
