Azerbaijan’s head attended ceremony of drinking water supplying to Khizi city

May 4, Fineko/abc.az. Today, President Ilham Aliyev attended ceremony on the occasion of completion of the Project of reconstruction of drinking water supply systems and creation of sewerage network in the city of Khizi and Altiagaj settlement.

National water operator Azersu’s chair Gorkhmaz Huseynov informed the head of state about the project.

The project is co-financed by the Azerbaijani government and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and is designed to improve provision of services of drinking water supply and sanitation for 3,300 people in Khizi, 1,500 people in Altiaghaj settlement given the prospects until 2030. The project will cover totally 6,300 people, including the population of three villages of the district.

Within the project the water intake facilities were constructed in Dakhardibi, which is considered the main source of water for Khizi city and Altiagaj settlement with productivity of 864 cu m a day, Garsa - productivity of 430 cu m a day, Shafa - productivity of 240 cu m a day and Eddibulag - productivity of 40 cu m a day. Four water storage reservoirs with a total volume of 1,400 cu m were built. With the purpose of transporting water from springs to the reservoir complex, the main water pipeline with length of 18 km was laid. Within the project in Khizi city and Altiagaj settlement it was finished construction of drinking water networks with length of 52.4 km and sewerage system – 32.4 km. 1,513 of observation wells were made on the network and connection of each house and facility to the sewer network ensured.

The process of tender for construction of wastewater treatment facilities with productivity of 1,500 cu m a day in Khizi city and with productivity of 350 cu m a day in Altiagaj settlement is completing.

Before this project, Khizi city used the water supply systems created in 1985-1991. As the existing 29 km water network in the city has become unusable, there was no normal water supply. The system of drinking water supply in Altiagaj settlement, created in the 80s also did not meet the operational requirements. 60% of the villagers were supplied with drinking water in centralized manner. Besides, there was no sewerage system in Khizi city and Altiaghaj settlement.
