Gold Retreats to $4,345.55/oz as Hawkish Central Bank Policy Weighs on Metals

September 23, Fineko/abc.az. Gold prices retreated as investors digested prospects that major central banks will keep interest rates elevated for an extended period to curb persistent inflation.

Spot gold fell 0.2% to $4,345.55 per ounce, while US gold futures for December delivery edged up 0.2% to $4,383.10.

The US Federal Reserve recently raised its policy rate to 3.75–4.00%, signaling potential further rate hikes, which pushed the US dollar near a two-month high. Meanwhile, BMI analysts maintained their average gold price forecast for 2026 at $4,400 per ounce , citing geopolitical risks and central bank buying as key structural supports. In other precious metals, spot silver dropped to $66.70 , platinum fell to $1,815.11 , and palladium decreased to $1,301.60 per ounce.
