European Natural Gas Prices Rise Amid Supply Concerns — Benchmark Surpasses €62

17:26 - 17.08.2026

August 17, Fineko/abc.az. Natural gas prices in Europe started the week on a high note, driven by ongoing LNG supply disruptions from the Gulf, reduced vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and increased electricity demand caused by hot weather.

On the Netherlands-based TTF hub, September gas futures rose by 1.4% to reach €62.26 per megawatt-hour.

Data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) indicates that gas storage levels across European Union countries currently stand at 60.8%, lingering below historical averages. Heatwaves across Southern and Central Europe are driving power plants to consume more gas, redirecting volumes that would otherwise be injected into storage ahead of winter.

Analysts anticipate that geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East and low storage levels will keep gas prices elevated in the near term.
