Fitch Affirms U.S. Credit Rating at 'AA+' with Stable Outlook

12:19 - 14.08.2026

August 14, Fineko/abc.az. Fitch Ratings has affirmed the United States' Long-Term Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'AA+' with a Stable outlook.

The rating agency noted that the U.S. credit profile is supported by structural strengths, including the size of the economy, high per capita income, a dynamic business environment, and exceptional financing flexibility driven by the U.S. dollar's role as the preeminent global reserve currency.

However, high fiscal deficits, a growing interest burden, and elevated general government debt continue to weigh on the rating. Fitch projects the U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio to rise from 117% at the end of 2025 to 123% by late 2028.

Key Economic Forecasts:

  • GDP Growth: U.S. economic growth is projected to average 1.9% over 2026-2027;

  • Inflation: Annual inflation is expected to average 3.4% this year, slowly converging toward the Fed's 2% target by late 2028;

  • Debt Ceiling: The U.S. government is forecasted to reach its $41.1 trillion statutory debt limit by mid-2027.
