August 14, Fineko/abc.az. The US administration has sent an official letter to the European Union, demanding the suspension of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) regulations. Washington warned that it would otherwise take "all necessary measures to address unreasonable burdens on US commerce."
Alongside the letter, US Ambassador to the EU Andrew Puzder stated that it is time for Brussels to fulfill its commitment to ensuring American companies do not face unfair restrictions. The move reignites tensions over the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which apply to companies operating within the EU regardless of headquarters.
While acknowledging minor reforms, the US government emphasized that extraterritorial scope and high compliance costs continue to prevent American firms from competing on a level playing field in European markets.
