August 14, Fineko/abc.az. The European Central Bank is expected to deliver a final interest rate increase next month as high energy prices push inflation further above its 2% target, before keeping policy on hold until at least mid-2027.
An 83% majority of economists (57 out of 69) in a Reuters survey expect the ECB to raise its deposit rate by 25 basis points to 2.50% in September. The ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict has kept oil prices ~25% above pre-war levels, lifting euro zone inflation to 2.9% last month.
If delivered, this would mark the ECB's shortest tightening cycle since 2011. Meanwhile, analysts raised the euro zone GDP growth forecast for 2026 from 0.5% to 0.8%.
