August 7, Fineko/abc.az. Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla will jointly deploy an initial $16.8 billion investment to build the Terafab semiconductor complex in Grimes County, Texas, securing the critical AI chip capacity needed for future projects.
SpaceX confirmed that the facility aims to bridge the gap between global semiconductor supply and the combined compute demand of over 1 terawatt anticipated by SpaceX and Tesla. Spanning 100 million square feet, the project will generate at least 3,000 high-paying jobs, with total capital expenditure expected to expand significantly across subsequent phases.
The Terafab facility will vertically integrate the fabrication, advanced packaging, and testing of logic and memory chips under one roof. Output will power Tesla's Optimus humanoid robots and Cybercab autonomous fleet, alongside high-performance chips engineered for SpaceX’s orbital data centers. The joint venture leverages manufacturing partnership support from Intel, following Tesla's ground-breaking on a precursor research fab at Giga Texas earlier this year.
