June 17, Fineko/abc.az. The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries have reached an agreement to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. According to the decision, the penalties will be expanded and will directly affect the Russian oil and gas sector.

ABC.AZ reports that the official statement of the leaders also recorded large-scale steps to provide military and technical support to Ukraine and a consensus on the Middle East agenda.

Key outcomes of the G7 agreement:

Strengthening Ukraine's air defense and long-range potential: It was decided to provide Kiev with additional defense complexes to increase its air defense potential, as well as long-range weapons. The G7 countries also expressed their willingness to consider expanding licenses so that Ukraine could independently increase its own military production.

Monitoring of the US-Iran agreement: The leaders expressed support for comprehensive diplomatic monitoring of recent agreements between Washington and Tehran. At the same time, G7 reiterated its tough position: Iran should never gain access to nuclear weapons.
