June 12, Fineko/abc.az. The United States and Iran are close to signing a temporary Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to restore maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz and solidify an ongoing ceasefire, with a formal signing potentially taking place in Geneva on Sunday, June 14.
According to ABC.AZ, citing senior diplomatic briefs published by Bloomberg, this breakthrough aligns with the upcoming G7 summit in France scheduled for June 15–17, where international supply chain stabilization is a key priority.
The interim framework initiates a 60-day diplomatic window. Under the mutual terms, Iran is expected to clear naval mines from the Strait of Hormuz, while the U.S. will lift its embargo on Iranian container ports. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed via Truth Social that he had aborted heavily planned military strikes scheduled for June 11, stating negotiations had reached Iran's supreme leadership level. Israeli officials reportedly received Trump’s last-minute cancellation with surprise. Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that while a final layout is not fully finalized, incremental progress has been achieved. Vice President JD Vance is slated to represent the U.S. delegation at the signing venue.
