February 20, Fineko/abc.az. The United States paid approx. $160 million of the more than $4 billion it owes to the UN.
ABC.AZ informs that , this happened on the day of the first meeting of Donald Trump's Peace Council initiative, which, according to experts, could undermine the organization's activities.
Although Trump has announced his intention to allocate funds to strengthen the UN, the U.S. remains the largest debtor: more than $2.19 billion falls on the regular budget, $2.4 billion on peacekeeping missions and $43.6 million on UN tribunals. Under the previous administration, Washington waived mandatory payments and reduced voluntary funding by withdrawing from dozens of UN agencies.
