November 17, Fineko/abc.az. Greece’s DEPA and Naftogaz signed a letter of intent to supply gas to Ukraine from next month to March 2026.
ABC.AZ reports that the Greek prime minister said that Athens will launch the Vertical Gas Corridor (VGK), through which American gas will flow to Ukraine.
The VGC has been operating in a test mode since July of this year. In fact, this is the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, created back in Soviet times to supply Russian methane to southern Europe. The problem with transporting gas through the VGK was that pumping through it turns out to be very expensive for Kiev. The gas that goes through the VGK becomes at least $100 more expensive per 1,000 cu m than on other routes: Romania and Bulgaria charge high transit fees, and even a special tariff with a discount of 25% did not make the route profitable. Therefore, it is more profitable to "drive" American LNG to Ukraine from Poland, the more profitable it is to supply gas from Russia through Slovakia.
In September and October there were no takers for pumping through the VGK, in November 600,000 cu m per day, or 3% of current gas imports are supplied to Ukraine via Greece via the VGK. The supplier is not specified.
