Mexico Prepares Antitrust Complaint Against Sony Over Transition to Digital-Only Games

22:48 - 13.07.2026

July 13, Fineko/abc.az. Mexican lawmakers intend to file a formal complaint against Sony with antitrust authorities following the company's decision to halt the release of games on optical discs starting in 2028.

According to the legislators, this move will restrict competition, strengthen Sony's control over the market, and negatively impact both users and developers. Specifically, residents in regions with slow internet connectivity, as well as businesses associated with the sale of physical copies, are expected to face significant challenges.

The initiators of the complaint argue that the abandonment of physical discs will increase developers' dependence on Sony's platform and effectively deprive users of their ownership rights to the games they purchase.
