July 10, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey and Iraq are planning to sign a new agreement on the supply of Iraqi oil to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan in the coming days, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated.
"We’ve brought the 12-month agreement to the final stage and intend to sign it in the coming days," TRT Haber reported the minister's words.
The Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline, with capacity of around 1.6 million b/d, is 970 km long. Local media outlets have previously reported that Turkey has opposed the automatic extension of the current contract under the same terms, demanding a revision of transit fees and compensation for infrastructure maintenance costs.
The current agreement between Iraq and Turkey, regarding the transit of Iraqi oil through the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, is set to expire at the end of July.
